The Blue CSCS Card is the first CSCS Skilled Worker Card. The Skilled Worker Cards (Blue and Gold) show that you have achieved Construction NVQ or SVQ Levels higher than Level 1. To be eligible for a CSCS Blue Card, you must have achieved NVQ or SVQ Level 2 or to have achieved a City and Guilds of London Institute Craft Certificate (indentured or accompanied with proof of apprenticeship) .
The Blue CSCS Card will help you get the role that you want by showing your employer that you have reached a recognisable level of competence. NVQ Level 2 is an industry wide standard of skill and competence in your trade: owning a Skilled Worker Blue CSCS Card proves that you work to that standard.
The kinds of roles that require the worker to have a Blue CSCS Card are those that require the level of skill achieved after you have qualified in your trade and have been working for a significant amount of time. Examples include skilled carpentry; bricklaying; plastering; painting; tiling; electrical; welding; roofing; dry lining; and plumbing, all to Construction NVQ Level 2 standard.
The Blue CSCS Card will have your photograph; your name; your registration number; and a Smart Card microchip on it. Since January 2010 all CSCS Cards issued have been CSCS Smart Cards. The chip contains information about your current level of Construction NVQ qualification, plus your name, your nationality and your date of birth. Site supervisors are able to check your identity by reading the chip on your Blue CSCS Smart Card in a Smart Card Reader. The Smart Card function ensures that the owner of the card is who they say they are: and that their level of competence is correct for the CSCS Blue Card.
You can apply for your Blue CSCS Card online by clicking the button below.
