NEBOSH is the National Examination Board in Occupational Health and Safety. Formed in 1979 it is an independent examining board and awarding body covering the construction industry and operates as a charity.

NEBOSH provides globally recognised qualification that meet health and safety environmental and risk management in both the public and private sector and across a range of workplaces.

Over 30,000 people work on 400 courses in 80 countries each year, making NEBOSH construction a vital element of the industries ability to train new appointments, or develop the skills of those already working within in.

NEBOSH qualification are recognised by professional bodies within the industry including the  Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM) and the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).

Each of its examination and qualification are defined by its staff, ensuring NEBOSH Construction qualification are set by those who have worked within or close with the industry.

The NEBOSH Construction Certificate

Method StatementThe NEBOSH National Construction certificate is designed for those within the construction industry, including managers, supervisors and CDM Coordinators, who are responsible for health and safety practice on site.

It educates on the legal requirements for each individual working on site or as part of a project within the construction industry, including those required to undertake safety inspections.

The NEBOSH Construction Certificate is offered across a nine study days, either on an intensive course or once a day for nine weeks. It divides into three parts covering health and safety, managing and controlling hazards and the practical application of health and safety in construction. It aims to achieve compliance with health and safety regulation for those working within the construction industry, cutting health and safety risks on construction sites saving money by reducing the need for consultants and protecting reputations.

Accreditation and qualification

In terms of the wider industry, the NEBOSH Construction certificate is accredited and rated by professional bodies. It meets the academic requirements Technician Membership (Tech IOSH) of Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and Associate membership (AIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).

It has been accredited and credit rated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and sits within the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at SCQF Level 6 with 17 SCQF credit points. SCQF Level 6 is comparable to NQF/QCF Level 3 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
