Gold SKILLcard - Supervisor

What is a Gold (Supervisory) SKILLcard?

The Gold (Supervisory) SKILLcard connotes both advanced training and extensive experience working in the HVACR industry. It is intended for those working as Foremen, Firstline Supervisors, Junior or Assistant Project Engineers and Senior Commissioning Engineers.

What qualifications will I need?

To gain a Gold (Supervisory) SKILLcard certification, you’ll need to have already passed one The HVACR Supervisory test.

Firstline Supervisors and Foremen will also need to take a course focusing on supervision and management, such as the SSSTS, the SMSTS, the IOSH Managing Safely course, among others. Applicants for either the First Line Supervisor’s or Foreman’s Card are also required to have at least 15 years of relevant experience of which at least 5 years was spent as a First Line Supervisor or Foreman.

Junior or Assistant Project Engineers will instead need to achieve a recognised educational qualification such as a Student Apprenticeship, and be registered for an NVQ/SVQ of management level or higher.

Senior Commissioning Engineers will normally need to have the appropriate Level 3 NVQ or SVQ qualifications, but some may be able to apply based on Industry Accreditation (‘Grandfather Rights’).

Applicants will also need to provide an employer’s endorsement, if applicants are applying absent a relevant NVQ they will need to provide two employer endorsements. For more information click here.

How long is the certification valid?

The Gold (Supervisory) SKILLcard is valid for five years and can be renewed.

What is the next step?

Those Supervisors who wish advance from their Gold (Supervisory) card may wish to qualify for the Black (Manager) SKILLcard, or to pursue higher NVQ levels.
